John Hardman was a sporting and horse painter who lived in Finsbury, London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere from 1799. Hardman was among a band of equine artists who painted the favourite horses and animals of the landed gentry.
Examples of his paintings are held by the British Library, Courtauld Institute and English Heritage.
The work is housed in its original period gilt frame, which is in excellent condition.
