The Ducal Palace Venice
Oil on canvas, signed & dated ‘78
Alfred Pollentine was a painter of Venetian scenes who was born in London. He was probably related to RJ and WH Pollentine who were also artists. He painted mainly topographical landscapes of Venice which were very popular during his lifetime. He also painted English coastal views. Pollentine exhibited at the British Institute, Suffolk Street and the Royal Society of British Artists from 1861 - 1880. Pollentine’s attention to detail and use of subtle palette help capture the atmosphere of one of the world’s most beautiful cities.
The painting is housed in a new, English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
