Waiting for Master
Colin Graeme was the son of the artist Robert Henry Roe (1793-1880) and the brother of Fred Roe (1864-1947). He initially signed his work ‘Colin Graeme Roe’ but later dropped the surname ‘Roe’ in order to distinguish himself from other members of his family who were artists.
He was a highly gifted painter and he was perhaps best known for his excellent depiction of sporting dogs. He was particularly fond of painting setters, both the Gordon and Irish varieties such as this finely painted red and white setter. A number of his works can be found at the Dudley Museum and the Sheffield Museum.
The painting is housed in its original period gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
