William Oliver The Flower Maiden William Oliver was a London figurative and genre artist who specialised in paintings of young women. He exhibited from 1867-1882 at the Royal Academy with a total of fifteen works including: "A Thing of Beauty is a Joy for Ever" and "A Love Test". He also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and the British Institute. During the 1870’s and 1880’s he became interested in Greek and Roman themes incorporating fine fabrics and costumes into his paintings. His well executed and delicate works mainly depict three quarter-length figures of young women and pretty girls. For this reason Oliver’s works remain highly popular and collectable today.
