Albert Moulton Foweraker was a landscape artist born on 7 July 1873 in Exeter, the only son of the Rev. Edmond Thomas and Emma Susanna Foweraker. He was educated at Exeter Cathedral School where his love of art was fostered, and in 1890 he exhibited at Cavendish College, Cambridge. He went on to Christ's College, Cambridge where he obtained a degree in applied science and in 1896 obtained a first class honours, City & Guild and qualified as a Milling Engineer. In 1897, he married Annie Triphina Coles, taking up art professionally a year later and exhibiting regularly. In 1902, he became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists exhibiting 52 paintings there. He also started an exhibition of works by modern painters in Exeter which later became the Devon and Cornwall Fine Art Society. Later in 1902, he moved from Exeter to Lelant, Cornwall and started travelling frequently to Spain, especially the south during the early 1900's and the 1920's. He also toured Southern France and North Africa, painting many scenes. In the mid 1920's he moved to Northbrook Road in Swanage, Dorset. Over the years he also produced a large number of views of Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. He was fascinated by the effects of light on the landscape particularly moonlight and the way light shone through windows. These became his trademarks along with his use of the colour blue. He died in January 1942 at Swanage, at the age of 68.
