George Hamilton Constantine Loading Hay George Hamilton Constantine was a landscape painter mainly in watercolour and is best known for his rural landscapes of horses ploughing, beach and harbour scenes. He was educated at the Sheffield Central School and the Sheffield College of Art, where his fellow pupils included David Jagger and Stanley Royle. He did not need to exhibit his work widely as there was a steady demand for it from dealers in this country and New York. He did, however exhibit once at the Royal Academy in 1916 and also held exhibitions in Huddersfield and Rotherham. He was Hon. Secretary of the Sheffield Society of Artists throughout the 1930's. The fine quality of his work and the appealing subject matter has helped to make his pictures as popular today as they were in his lifetime. sold |
