Joseph Hughes Clayton Waiting for the Tide, Cemaes Bay Joseph Clayton was a landscape and coastal artist who painted in both watercolour and oil. He was recorded as living in Liverpool in 1891 and also in 1916. By 1907, he was exhibiting from an address in Cemaes Bay, Anglesey and in 1928 was living in Wallasey, Cheshire. Clayton was extremely popular during his lifetime and found a ready market for his works through local art galleries. He exhibited no fewer than 42 works at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
