28.5 inches x 21 inches

Henry Earp was a landscape and animal painter who was born in Westminster, London. His father George Earp was a professor of drawing and the rest of his family (at least 4 brothers and 2 sisters) were all painters. His son Henry Earp (fl. 1882-1886) was also an artist. From around 1848 the family lived in Brighton and from here Earp travelled around painting views of the Home Counties, mostly in watercolour and often including cattle. Henry was perhaps the best known and most competent painter of this prolific family of artists. He exhibited at the principle London galleries from 1871-1886, including Suffolk Street, the New Watercolour Society and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour. He also exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and the Manchester City Art Gallery. Examples of his works can be found at the Brighton & Hove Museum and the New South Wales Art Gallery, Australia.
