Frederick Aldridge was a marine painter who lived in Worthing. He painted the Channel coasts including the Isle of Wight as in this fine example and was a regular visitor to Cowes week. He also painted many views of Venice. Aldridge exhibited in London from 1880 to 1901 at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He also exhibited at Brighton in 1909 and Dorchester in 1910.
