Attilio Pratella The Bay of Naples Attilio Pratella was born in Lugo di Romagna in 1856. During his early years, he received his drawing instruction in Lugo, before winning a 2 year scholarship in 1877 at the Academy of Arts in Bologna. There he was influenced by the landscapes of Fontanesi. In 1880, he studied at the Institute of Art in Naples under Filipo Palizzi and Morelli. He became friends with Dalbono and the painters of the School of Resina and came under the influence of De Nittis. He painted the landscapes, the lives of its inhabitants and the surrounding seas of the "most beautiful city in the world". From 1881, he exhibited his works at the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti in Naples. In 1886, one of his paintings "The Morning" was acquired by the Art Gallery of Capodimonte on the advise of Morelli. Pratella became very successful, exhibiting his work in Italy and abroad including the National Exhibition in Venice and the Paris Salon. Pratella was a sensitive draughtsman, and throughout his life he drew continuously, constantly studying and developing his style. He died in Naples in 1949. Many of his works can be found in Museums and Art Galleries all over the world. Price Band: F £15,000-£20,000 |
