Pair of George III Mahogany Armchairs
in the manner of John Cobb

A fine pair of English George III Hepplewhite period mahogany armchairs, of generous proportions in the manner of John Cobb. The gently curved upholstered backs with out-swept arms and padded armrests on channel-carved arm supports. Having upholstered seats with serpentine shaped fronts. The whole is raised upon serpentine channelled legs with carved decoration to the tops. An elegant pair of chairs with good colour and original patination to the show-wood. The chairs were inherited by the previous owner from her grandmother, the first cousin of the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (1869-1940), and are believed to have come from the Chamberlain family home in Edgbaston.  C1775.
