George III Mahogany Dumb Waiter A fine George III brass mounted two tier Dumb Waiter of superb colour and original patination, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. The two circular mahogany shelves with brass gallery and four brass column supports. The whole is raised on a turned and reeded stem above a splayed reeded tripod base, terminating in original brass caps and castors. A rare opportunity to acquire a superb dumb waiter in fine, original condition. C1803. A similar dumb waiter appears in a Gillows sketchbook dated 1803, held by the Westminster Library London. Another closely related dumb waiter from the collection of the Dukes of Argyll at Inverary Castle, Argyll is illustrated in J C Rogers English Furniture, 1967, p. 239, fig. 197. One more is also to be found in C Claxton Stevens and S Whittington 18th Century English Furniture: The Norman Adams Collection, 1983, p.273. C1803.
