Regency Davenport
attributed to Gillows

A fine quality regency rosewood Davenport of good colour and patination, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. The sloping rectangular top with leather insert and brass gallery opening to reveal two interior drawers and a double dummy drawer below. Fitted to the right hand side a pen and ink drawer folding open through 90 degrees above a fitted cupboard door, which opens to reveal four mahogany drawers with inset brass handles. The sliding top pulls forward to allow easy access for writing, and there are two retractable document shelves to either side. The whole is raised upon bun feet with recessed brass castors. An excellent piece of furniture of good original colour and patination. C1820.
